Ciudad Rodrigo

Ciudad Rodrigo stands on the Portuguese border, in the southwest of Salamanca province. During the Middle Ages it acted as a bastion against the Moslem foe and the fledgling kingdom of Portugal; in 1161 the town was repopulated by Ferdinand II of Leon who added a defensive wall.
